Random Update

I've lost all sense of what's interesting and what's boring in this space (and technically I'm writing this for me, not you, so I shouldn't care) but I am reminded from time to time that the whole reason I started this thing was to help my far-flung friends have some clue as to what I'm up to. So here's what I'm up to:

Last week was full of all sorts of apartment excitement. The landlady finally sent over some contractors to weather-treat the deck and fix some spotty places in the roof and a handful of other random things. Simultaneously, my new roommate was moving in (with help from her boyfriend, father, and two of his friends, the latter three all in their sixties and me all worried someone's going to have a heart attack in the 100+ degree weather; thankfully, no one did). She wins the award for fastest unpacking I've ever witnessed. Also, she's just generally awesome. I'm so glad to have a roommate again (been knocking around a half-empty apartment with just the cat for company for the past month and a half).

This week is all about orientation madness around the department and the general feeling of fall beginning. Gymnastics started up again today, so I spent three fun but exhausting hours cavorting with little kids. Best of all - my four year olds from last year are in the kindergarten class this year, and despite a long summer in between, they all remember me!

After that I got to hang out at school until 10:30pm waiting on the first (of many, many) run of my computer program, which takes 60 minutes to complete each time. Which wouldn't be so bad, if I could just start it and walk away, but the damn thing requires babysitting. But at least I'll have results for my adviser tomorrow. Progress!

Starting after labor day I'll be teaching my own class, leading a weekly journal club, dabbling in random tutoring and consulting gigs, coaching gymnastics, and dissertating.

In October I get to see Sid, Sara (maybe two!), and Carrie in NYC, PLUS Anthony Pascal and Adam Rapp back on Broadway in Rent. Life is sweet.
